McAuley Community Services for Women runs the only 24/7 accessible safe house for women experiencing family violence in Victoria - McAuley Care.
Each year the 24/7 Special Events Committee organises a cocktail party to raise $100,000 to keep the safe house open around the clock. The cocktail party is a keystone element in our fundraising year: without these donations, the safe house would only open during business hours.
In 2017, the cocktail party will take on an urgency as never before.
We invite you to take a “journey from violence to safety”, and experience the emotions along the way as you learn more about what it takes to take the courageous first steps to safety and hope, and the essential role that McAuley Community Services for Women plays.
Last financial year, 183 women with 174 accompanying children sought support from McAuley Care. It costs $1,000 for a woman and her child/children for a week at McAuley Care. This covers:
safe accommodation and food for seven days;
access to advice on medical, legal, schooling and housing services;
initial counselling; and
children access a play room, providing some ‘normalcy’ in a time of crisis
